CHARACTER NAME: Chris Redfield
SERIES: Resident Evil
CANON POINT: Post-RE6
AGE: 40
APPEARANCE: His years of paramilitary service have cut Chris an imposing figure. He's a Caucasian man of American descent, 6'1" and well over 200 pounds, cut with muscle. He keeps his brown hair cut manageable and short, though his facial scruff changes depending on how busy he is at any given moment in time. His eyes are blue, and there is a weariness in his expression that shows particularly when he's tired or upset. He is definitely function over fashion and dresses practically, always ready to move, if not in his uniform than in comfortable civilian wear.

PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY: N/A

PERSONALITY:

Chris Redfield has spent nearly his entire adult life in the military or police, dedicating his safety and occasionally his sanity to protecting those who cannot protect themselves. He is a natural born hero, a righteous and compassionate person who would never hesitate to risk his own life for someone else's. As one of the founding members of the BSAA, Chris is regarded as a talented leader and well-liked by his men. He is viewed as something of a legend by his fellow soldiers, though he is quick to shrug off such praise and insist that he's only gotten this far by doing his job. His job just so happens to be tangling with hideous, deadly mutants and killing them in fantastically violent ways-- and Chris is very good at his job.

Though he is a talented soldier, Chris is the type who clashes with authority often. He follows his own convictions and will never back down from what he feels to be right, even if it means getting himself in trouble or violating orders. For instance, he was discharged from the Air Force without honors in his early 20's for an undisclosed offense, implied to be a confrontation with his superiors. Even as a BSAA agent Chris is known for disregarding orders and making his own calls, much to the vexation of his commanding officers. Fortunately, Chris' moral compass points straight north, and he always has the greater good in mind even when he goes flying off the handle. His intuition is miraculously reliable, and when he dodges orders on a hunch, he usually ends up being right. These qualities make him incredibly good at getting the job done, which is likely the reason his superiors put up with his occasional loose adherence to orders.

This, combined with his tendency to rush in first and ask questions later, makes Chris something of a loose cannon. Chris is an extremely emotional person and lets his instincts steer him in the field, which occasionally means he doesn't think things through all the way. His temper is notoriously short, and when it goes off he becomes even more rash and stubborn than normal. It's far too easy to instigate him or trick him when he's worked up, and he can be notoriously slow on the uptake if he's distracted by the moment. This would have gotten him killed years ago if he wasn't blessed with physical ability and an incredible lucky streak. It's safe to say Chris works at his best when he's partnered with someone a little more cool-headed and thoughtful than he is, someone who can balance out his recklessness with logic and patience.

Chris is also extremely single-minded. Once he has an objective, absolutely nothing will distract him or keep him from achieving it, whether it be solving a problem, completing a mission or finding an answer. Unfortunately, this can and often does cross over into unhealthy obsession. Memories of his past haunt Chris and he has a lot of trouble letting go of tragedies, grudges, guilt and other unhappy things. Rather than dealing with them, he tends to cope with his emotions by throwing himself even further into his work, which results in things building up that only weigh him down further and further. He is shown to be suffering from PTSD after the events of RE5, and has a full-blown breakdown in between chapters of RE6.

His selflessness and his desire to protect others are the driving purposes in his life-- he takes his responsibilities seriously and blames himself when he fails to uphold them. In the few times when he has been out of service for one reason or another, he becomes directionless, unable to find anything else worth applying himself to. He spent several years as a drifter after the Air Force, and when a head injury temporarily removes him from active duty in the BSAA, he disappears off the radar completely and winds up with a drinking problem. Working is his most reliable coping mechanism, and he will turn to other, unhealthier ways to cope if he is unable to keep busy. Despite being one of the BSAA founders, Chris is still a field agent and it's laughable to think of him giving it up for a desk job, no matter what toll combat takes on him. All Chris wants out of life is to help create a peaceful world, free of fear, and it's this goal that keeps him going even when things are at their darkest and he is fully immersed in some of the worst atrocities humanity can come up with.

If you can get Chris to stop thinking about his job, an increasingly difficult notion, he is a friendly person and it's pretty easy to get along with him. Off the job, he enjoys simple hobbies like fishing or playing the guitar, can't kick his cigarette addiction and loves old cars and motorcycles. He has an unintentionally dry sense of humor and often comes off as something of a dork. The same passion for his job applies to the people he is close to-- Chris has a big heart, and those who become his friends, soldiers, or partners will have a loyal and devoted protector in him, no matter what. This goes double for his beloved little sister Claire. Threaten or harm any of his special people, and you're stuck dealing with the raging juggernaut of pain that is an angered Chris Redfield.

ABILITIES:

Chris is the very definition of a military man and has the skillset to reflect as much. He is an expert with nearly every type of firearm and was renowned for his sharpshooting skills in the police department, winning competitions even among the elite S.T.A.R.S. unit. He is also talented with close quarter combat, armed or unarmed. Knives are his specialty, and he usually keeps one on hand in case of emergencies.

He is in excellent physical condition and capable of great feats of athleticism, running, jumping and maneuvering with seasoned experience that only being in incredible danger quite often can grant someone. Though his abilities are in no way superhuman, Chris is shown to be capable of near-ludicrous levels of strength including but not limited to lifting and pushing extremely heavy objects, punching a boulder several times his size into a volcano, and picking up full grown adult zombies and chucking them like lawn darts. Though he is now 40, Chris is still capable of keeping up with men half his age in the field.

Originally in the Air Force, Chris can also operate modern jets, helicopters and similar aircraft. It's reasonable he could figure out an older model with a little bit of fiddling.

JOURNAL ENTRY SAMPLE:

(Video)

[The device is set on a table, aimed towards an empty chair that doesn't stay empty for too long. Within a moment or two it's filled by Chris, slumping down into it as though he's exhausted. As usual, though, he's trying to hide it beneath a professional, stoic facade, though it's hard to miss the weariness in his eyes.

His tone is professional too, though cordial.
]

I hope everyone's settling in all right, and I hope everyone's staying safe.

On that note, I think those of us with combat experience could be doing a lot more than just sitting in our dorms all day. At least, I'd like to be. There's only so many hours of creaky pipes I can handle listening to.

[He digs into his jacket pocket and pulls out a cigarette, lighting it quickly and taking a drag before he continues.]

So here's an idea. I'm accepting volunteers who want to start an escort service. [He's quick to add:] Not like that, either. Armed, trained individuals who can accompany people into the city and around the more dangerous parts of the campus. People who can't defend themselves stay safe, and all us bruisers stay busy.

If you can hold your own, think about signing up. If you can't quite hold your own... maybe I could train you to.

[He takes another drag of his cigarette and sighs, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees.]

As far as payment goes? I'd just as soon do it for free. The more of us stay alive, the better off we'll be, if you ask me. If you're gonna insist on it, though...

[He smirks.]

I don't know. I may not be the guy you want to work with.
